Sept. 6th, 6:30-8:30pm

Old Firehouse Bookstore
232 Linden Street, Fort Collins

Our local companion book for 2019 is American Backyard, by Elliot Ross and Genevieve Allison. Elliot and Gen traveled the 2000 miles of the US-Mexico border, post election in the spring of 2017. Through an amalgam of portraiture and topographical studies of border security infrastructure, American Backyard looks at the reality of life on the border.
Elliot Ross is an internationally exhibited photographer based in Ft. Collins, Colorado with a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been widely published, with notable appearances in National Geographic, TIME, The Guardian, Vice and The Atlantic. His work focuses predominantly on human stories that explore spaces in transition, among them, the rapidly changing American arctic, and the divisive nature of geopolitical borders including the plight of refugees seeking asylum in Europe and stories from marginalized American communities of the US-Mexico borderlands.
Genevieve Allison is a writer and artist whose work focuses on the intersection of issues concerning land use, community, and culture. In addition to her work as art journalist and critic for Artforum and Aperture, her writing appears in notable publications such as TimeVice and The Collective Quarterly. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA) from the University of Auckland and has worked in art book publishing for the Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), Rizzoli and Paul Chan’s imprint Badlands Unlimited. She is based in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
